Julie Doar-Sinkfield is a dedicated lifelong educator and advocate for neurodivergent individuals. As a mother of three, including two neurodivergent children, she understands firsthand the unique challenges and strengths that come with diverse learning needs. To bridge the gap in services for neurodivergent students at the higher education level, she founded My Life Tutors, a program designed to provide tailored support and resources.
Nadia Casseus-Torney has excelled in the delivery of social and academic services to children in traditional as well as specialized settings for over 25 years. She has an EdS in special education and has worked in both the K-12 arena but also and as a professor at Johns Hopkins University. In her spare time, she co-founded a Public Charter School in the District of Columbia and served as Principal and Chief Academic Officer. She is a mom of two boys and is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta and Order of the Eastern Star.
In my work with government, corporate business, nonprofits and as a mom in the real world, I have become obsessed with getting my point across. I have learned that even really smart people – industry experts, business leaders, top students – don’t always feel confident in their ability to clearly communicate in a way that is accurate, precise and effective. Or worse, they aren’t aware at all, and leave opportunities on the table. Effective communication is more than just the perfect essay or amazing speech; it’s about being heard and understood on a daily basis, and it's about moving behavior. I work in small groups and one-on-one with clients -- high school and college students, professionals, small business owners -- to help them become the most effective communicators they can be.
Life Tutors have personal skills and professional backgrounds in a variety of disciplines from liberal arts to more practical disciplines. Some have business experience in non-profits or start-ups. Every Life Tutor has a Bachelor’s Degree and many have graduate or professional degrees
Life Tutors work hard to create a rapport with their client. Each 8-16 week client contract is centered around meeting goals that the client establishes at the beginning. If, at the end of the contract, the client chooses to continue service with the same Life Tutor, we call that a win-win!
We use Cognitive Behavioral techniques and reinforce them with our own training process designed to better understand the people most likely to engage our services. Training is ongoing and Life Tutors check in with managers - who were first Life Tutors themselves - who have used various methodologies and achieved success with them.
We are actively onboarding Life Tutors and evaluate them based on the needs expressed by the client during the intake, as well as by the profile of the typical client. Once matched, the client has a meeting with the Life Tutor to talk through the client’s plans, goals, and long-term aspirations as well as the day-to-day plan moving forward.
Your satisfaction with the Life Tutor is paramount to the client/coach relationship. If you are not satisfied, please contact us. We will listen to your concerns and work with you to move forward. If a transition to another coach is necessary, we will move forward on that process as soon as possible.
Our coaches will work with you to develop goals. Clients report boosts in confidence and skill through our persistent, regular support. Organizational and planning skills are reinforced daily to improve task attack skills. Over time and with our consistent approach, the clients’ skills develop at the clients’ pace.
